Happy Spaces
We love independent bookstores and try to encourage all members of the literary circle to add to their library every year. This page has a list and contact information for some of our favorite stores around the country. Covid19 prevents us from traveling and being there in person but it has opened up the world of possibility for us to discover so many cool stores. We use http://www.bookshop.org to support the independent stores you find here.
Uncle Bobbie’s Bookstore
I love that Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, is giving us some great Black lit vibes. Check him out, Marc Lamont Hill stepped into the bookstore and coffee shop space with a great collection. You can order from across the nation through their relationship with Bookshop. I loved the store.
Harriett’s Bookshop
One of my best discoveries in the pandemic was finding out about Harriett’s Bookstore, owned by Jeannine Cook in Philadelphia. She named this store after Harriett Tubman and has curated a space for culture and curiosity, where the arts and Black women, in particular, can thrive. I can not wait to visit her space in Philadelphia. She is located at 258 E. Girard Avenue. Tell her we sent you!

Mahogany Books
Mahogany Books is located in Washington DC and is Black woman co-owned, originally as an online presence. They have survived Covid with customer service, curated collection, and for locals, pick up options. http://www.mahoganybooks.com
The Key Bookstore
We were excited to discover a Black woman owned literary space in Connecticut. Tucked in the back of a promising industrial space, the owner of The Key Bookstore operates her mostly virtual space of a curated collection serving the Black/African American Community with necessary knowledge, events, and community.
