For The Love of Reading

The 2022 Season has come to a close and if there is one thing we wanted to instill in the teens it is this –

The Love of Reading.

We talked about the book banning happening across the country and the motives behind it.

We centered issues of identity and belonging in everything we read.

We challenged each other to think broadly and ask questions through the author’s text.

Books we read and engaged were

The 1619 Project:A New Origin Story – edited by Nikole Hannah Jones – the creative pieces

Read Until You Understand:The Profound Wisdom of Black Life and Literature by Farah Jasmine Griffin

Caucasia by Danny Senna

Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins Valdez

ain’t burned all the bright by Jason Reynolds and Jason Griffin

Off the Record by Camryn Garrett

The Poetry of Black America: Anthology of the 20th Century edited by Arnold Adoff

We are exploring texts for the 2023 season. What should be on our list for June and July 2023?
