The Hurston & Hughes Literarcy Circle’s home base is in Kirkwood. Many of our readers are in this school district, therefore, we incorporate their requirements into our literary options for the eight weeks we will read together.
This link includes options for all incoming freshman up to seniors. There is also a link from the district page for Honors and AP courses that are separate.
While most grades are only required to read one book, it is highly recommended that rising scholars read 4-5 books over the summer, that is one book every two weeks.
The Hurston & Hughes Literary Circle is open to all Afro-identified students in home, public, and private schools in the St. Louis metro area. Students outside this area are welcome to engage with us remotely via the reading list, participation in the Google Plus discussions, and responding to upcomging book reviews.
